Information on Disability Insurance Quotes, Policies, and Other
What
you need to know if your disability
is temporary and you can go back to the same job in a few months:
- Be patient and
take time to recover properly. If you go back to work too soon or push
yourself, your temporary disability could get worse!
- Obtain
physician and specialist permissions to go back to work.
- Know
the level of work load your physician and specialist are limiting you
to.
- Get
a release from all physicians and specialists, or at least the major
care giver, to go back to work. Your employer will need this for insurance
reasons. Most employers will not let you come back to work without
it.
Here's
a list of accommodations that will allow you to continue to work:
|
With
your employer:
- Handicap
access to your workplace area.
- Flexible
work schedule.
- Obtaining
specific equipment to perform your job.
With
your family and friends:
- Transportation
arrangements.
- If
needed, help getting ready.
- Other
errands that may help you, such as picking up dry cleaning, etc.

arrangements will need to be adjusted.

and other activities may be planned differently.

therapy, among others may change.

What if you need to live in a care facility?
If living at home isn't an option, then you may have to consider
an adjustment in your living arrangements. Your doctor and social worker
will be able to help you decide what would be best for you. Do your
research on all possibilities! Be sure you talk to family and friends
about your possible needs and solutions. Keep everyone involved! They
need your love and support now, especially any children! Even though
you may be disabled for life, don't cripple yourself or your family
emotionally; everyone will be going through a difficult time. Keep this
in mind and try to stay positive.
